THINKING ABOUT ART and the appropriation of art to make other art
or taking art to make products…
and the consumer’s narrative with it…
case study: Diamond Supply Co. “references” Comme des Garcons PLAY
-is it stealing?
-is it stealing when it’s done poorly?
-can it be exciting for some skater kid who’s into japanese fashion watch his worlds collide and adore this?
-can it be depressing for a comme fan to think about a bunch of skater kids donning those eyeballs without knowing their origin?
-why does it matter?
The imagery that a majority of skate companies use oftentimes is obviously stolen, something I love and hate. Sometimes it’s blatant theft, sometimes it’s a cultural head-nod, or name drop. So is a statement being made?
Are any statements being made when everyone is making money along the line?

yeah, it’s probably one huge circle jerk anyway… yeah…?
